Supporting Research in Cardiothoracic Surgery
The aim of the ANZSCTS Research Foundation is to foster and support research in Cardiothoracic Surgery.
The proportion of funds from national granting bodies such as the NHMRC, Heart Foundation and RACS going to support research in cardiovascular surgery is very small. Realising the importance of research to the development and long-term welfare of the specialty of cardiothoracic surgery, the ANZSCTS has established a foundation to support research.
Recognising that trainees are eligible to receive RACS grants, the ANZSCTS Research Foundation is devoted primarily to cardiothoracic surgeons. It is recognised that it is difficult to fund a research project completely but that obtaining funding via a competitive process such as an ANZSCTS Foundation grant can assist in attracting matching funds from other sources such as hospitals or private benefactors.
